The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre

Years 2 to 4

School visit to the Roald Dahl Museum

Sessions for years 2 to 4

Exploring Editing

Roald Dahl was the master of the editing process. Explore his Writing Hut and find out about Roald Dahl’s life and the changes he made to his writing. Then use Roald Dahl’s writing processes to develop a character using a line written by the author.

Crafting Characters

Discover how Roald Dahl found his ideas for creating characters. Read his real letters, dress up as the author with fantabulous props and make your own character in our interactive Story Centre.

Unlocking Ideas

Learn about Roald Dahl’s life before finding out where the author got his ideas from. Explore his Writing Hut to learn more and be inspired during small group activities in the galleries.

Explore the Archive: Undercover Editors

Discover how Roald Dahl edited his work with examples from the archive throughout this session. Get hands-on completing editing activities, and hunt around the Museum for editing examples from the master storyteller. Finally, your class will use all that they have learnt to edit some of Roald Dahl’s own work – will they send it to the publisher and meet the deadline?!

Village Trail

You can combine all our sessions with our self-guided Village Trail which will allow you to explore Great Missenden and its connections with Roald Dahl. You can download the Village Trail from the downloads panel on the right hand side of this page.
