The Amanda Conquy Travel Bursary is named in recognition of the Chair of the Museum Board of Trustees from 2005 until 2014. Amanda's contribution to the success of the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre is enormous, and she remains a great friend of the Museum.
Many schools need to hire coaches to visit the Museum. While this is not a problem for some schools, we are aware that it prevents others from visiting us, because they may not have the budget to cover coach hire and may not serve an area where parents can afford to contribute.
We can offer up to £230 towards coach costs for four schools per term. The cost of the school session at the Museum is still payable by the school.
Please note that once a school has been awarded a bursary, the school pays the travel costs in the first instance. The costs will be reimbursed on receipt of an invoice from the school for the value of the bursary. This should be submitted within 30 days following the visit.
The travel bursary has three application closing dates throughout the year. Please submit your application by the deadline in the term before your visit.
For schools visiting in Autumn Term 2017, the closing date for applications is 3 July 2017.
For schools visiting in Spring Term 2018, the closing date for applications is 6 November 2017.
For schools visiting in Summer Term 2017, the closing date for applications is 26 February 2018.
Our Travel Bursary scheme is set up to identify schools which might be most in need of financial support. For example, the number of students receiving free school meals, or the percentage of EAL students, may form a strong factor in your decision to apply. You will need to write a detailed supporting statement explaining your perceived impact of the visit on the students' learning, how the visit will form part of a larger scheme of work, and, if applicable, how the bursary will relate to your pupil premium allocation.
