If you scrolled through TikTok any time in December, you likely noticed a particular all-dancing, all-beret-wearing trend. Tiktokers around the world donned their dancing shoes to recreate one very iconic moment from Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical.

The inspiration? Red Beret Girl.

And what’s more, she’s just been nominated for a Webby Award!

The viral success of the Red Beret Girl campaign was huge. Inspired by the teaser clip from the song “Revolting Children”, influencers, dancers and celebs alike tried their hand at the wickedly fast choreography, bopping down corridors with their best revolting moves.

High profile names including Jojo Siwa and Missy Elliot joined the conversation and press coverage included Rolling Stone, Variety, The Tab, and The Cut, amongst many more.

Who is Red Beret Girl?

This blond-bobbed schoolgirl is the character of Hortensia, played by Meesha Garbett. Hortensia is an older student at Crunchem Hall and a leading figure in the revolt against the terrible Trunchbull (played by an almost unrecognisable Emma Thompson).

In her own right Garbett is a two-time world champion street dancer, a world body popping battle finalist, and a two-time British Contemporary Champion. People have given themselves quite the challenge matching up to her moves.
