Revolting news! Netflix has announced the date you’ve all been waiting for: Matilda the Musical will be on Netflix UK and Ireland from 25th June.
The film took the world by storm in December, when Alisha’s Weir’s Matilda and her Crunchem Hall classmates sang and danced their way into our hearts.
If you didn’t manage to catch it in cinemas at Christmas, you can now look forward to summertime streaming of the film that has become beloved in households all over the world.

Matilda Wormwood is a little girl with big curiosity, a sharp mind and a vivid imagination. Originally an internationally loved musical, the film is packed full of toe tapping, hell-raising songs. The most popular track, “Revolting Children”, has over 8 million plays on Spotify, with “Naughty” and “School Song” both raking in over 5 million each. You might even recognise “Revolting Children” from the viral TikTok trend, where fans worldwide recreated the wickedly fast dance in the style of “Red Beret Girl”.
It’s already racked up a lot of praise
Matilda the Musical was nominated for two BAFTA awards, including Outstanding British Film of the Year. Alisha Weir’s spirited portrayal of the titular character gained her a nomination for Young British/Irish Performer of the Year at the London Critics Circle Film Awards, with Emma Thompson also nominated for British/Irish Actress of the Year for her terrifying Miss Trunchbull.

Millions of people around the world have already seen the film - in fact, Matilda remained at the top of the box office in UK cinemas for three consecutive weeks. Internationally, it was the second most watched film on Netflix this Christmas after Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and boasted the number one spot for family film views.
