The Roald Dahl Museum

Our great little attraction in the heart of Roald Dahl country is perfect for small group bookings. Packed with hands-on activities and home to Dahl’s famous Writing Hut. Explore the village and countryside that inspired the author and enjoy cakes and creams teas in the cafe.

We offer a 10% discount on admission for prepaid groups of 15 or more (must be paid for at least 14 days in advance), plus specially tailored talks and tours.

Please note that the Museum can get very busy during school holidays, especially half-term holidays. We recommend visiting with groups outside these times.

Talks and tours

We offer talks of up to 30 minutes and Guided Village Trails of approximately one hour. Please contact us for costs and availability.

A guided Village Trail takes in the sites of inspiration for stories such as The BFG and Matilda around Great Missenden, the village where Roald Dahl lived and wrote for over thirty years. Talks and tours are designed to enhance your visit and can be tailored to specific requirements and topics, for example Roald Dahl’s childhood, Roald Dahl’s writing process or examples from the archive.

Alternatively you can pick up free Village and Coutryside trail leaflets from the Museum for your group to complete under their own steam.

Group sizes

Our maximum group size is 35, as space is limited. If you have a larger group, please call; we will do everything we can to accommodate you but may have to split you into two smaller groups. Entry as a group can only be guaranteed if booked and paid for in advance. 

Groups of children

(other than school visits). 
If you are organising a group visit for children, we require a ratio of 1 adult to supervise every 8 children. These adults receive free admission. Any additional adults will be charged normal admission (less a 10% discount for groups with 15 to 35 tickets paid for in advance. Please also see the schools section of the website.

Food and drink

The Café can provide pre-booked food and drinks for your group, from tea and coffee to sandwiches and cake. Prices vary based on numbers and requirements so call the cafe on 01494 865113, or

You can bring your own food into the Museum, although please note that our spaces for picnics are limited and you can't eat your own food in the Cafe - even if the picnic rooms are full. Picnic rooms are subject to availability and may be full at peak times. They are usually in use by pre-booked school groups during the week. Please let us know if you would like to use the picnic room when booking your visit to discuss availability.

The full cost of the visit is payable 28 days in advance of your booking and must be confirmed by phone. On confirmation of your booking, you will be sent an invoice that can be paid by card or cheque. Cancellations made within 28 days of your visit date will incur a charge of 50%.
