2021 marks a marvellous 30 years since Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity was set up by Roald Dahl’s widow, Felicity Dahl. The charity, which provides specialist nurses and support to seriously ill children, will kick off its special year by reflecting on its milestones from establishing the first ever Paediatric Epilepsy Specialist Nurse to creating the world’s first SWAN (Syndromes Without A Name) Specialist Nurse.

It is impossible to imagine how devastating it would be to find out that your child has a brain tumour and then suffers a stroke. That is what happened to Dáire and his family. Fortunately, Dáire has an excellent team in Belfast to help him through his rehabilitation including Roald Dahl Neurodisability Specialist Nurse, Jennifer. Dáire’s mum, Kerrie explains how Jennifer and the team made Dáire’s recovery as fun as it could be and involved the whole family in his care.

An impressive twenty Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses based at NHS Trusts in England have been selected to take part in the highly regarded Florence Nightingale Foundation Leadership Programme, thanks to funding supported by Health Education England.

Joanna Lumley OBE is to preside over a very special auction in aid of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity at Christie’s iconic auction house in London on the 9th December. Joanna is a committed and long serving Patron to the charity, which provides specialist nurses and support to seriously ill children.

Henry (4) has the incredibly rare, inherited blood condition, Diamond-Blackfan Anaemia. Since diagnosis, Henry’s parents have been on an emotional rollercoaster having to take him for blood transfusions every three weeks and then a bone marrow transplant. Henry’s Roald Dahl Specialist Nurse, Clare, has been by the family’s side throughout. We caught up with Henry’s mum, Zoe to find out more about the impact of having a seriously ill child and why having the support of a Roald Dahl Specialist Nurse is so important:

Our wonderful Roald Dahl Story Company colleague, Grace completed her first London Marathon in a MARVELLOUS 4 hrs 27 mins on Oct 4th raising a fantastic £2557.60 for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
