Samantha will be completing 500,000 steps in January to raise £500 for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
Our marvellous fundraiser Samantha has set herself a January challenge to walk/run 500,000 steps throughout the month and will be completing an average of just over 16,129 steps a day!
Samantha has a fantastic fundraising target of £500, if you would like to support Samantha’s challenge please visit her just giving page here.
Can you tell us why you decided to take on a challenge this January?
I love a challenge and last year I was doing challenges for other fundraisers and really pushed myself to do them when COVID hit us and we were all asked to stay at home. I think as the year wore on and the days got shorter and the nights got longer my overall fundraising efforts as well as fitness declined. So to kick start the New Year I wanted to do something positive, I wanted to challenge myself again (I love a challenge, I'm a bit competitive!) I saw some friends had decided to take on some challenges for this month, so I decided to set the 500,000 steps challenge in January for myself. January is a good month to do it as it's my birthday month and rather than anyone wishing to send me a card or a gift, I'd much rather encourage family & friends to donate to a charity.
Why did you decide to fundraise in aid of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity?
I decided to fundraise in aid of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity as children are so important, they are our future and I feel personally that they are the ones who have been most impacted by the current pandemic. What about all those seriously ill children? That got me thinking about how they have been impacted during this pandemic, even more than they already have been with a serious illness. I want to do something, even if just a little something to help those children get access to a Roald Dahl Specialist Nurse. Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity seemed to be the obvious choice to me.
Why would you recommend others get involved in events like these?
They are great to give yourself a challenge, a focus, something to put your time towards, if (like many people) you have a little more time on your hands than usual given that COVID has turned our worlds upside down, then I'd strongly recommend for the good of a person’s mental and/or physical health they take up a challenge but do it with a purpose, e.g. raise money for a charity, raise money for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. Having a Purpose = Passion = Power. This is what drives me to want to see a challenge through! Your challenge could be anything too, just something that would challenge you as an individual. No person is the same, everyone is different so your challenge can be your goal, whatever it is.
Samantha’s marvellous fundraising will help provide specialist nurses and support for seriously ill children living with complex, lifelong illnesses.
If you would like to set yourself a January challenge or sign up to a challenge event this year, it’s not too late! Why not fundraise in aid of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity to help seriously ill children lead a more marvellous life.
