Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity launches a nurses appeal, the day before International Nurses Day (12th May), to ensure its network of Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses can continue their vital work caring for seriously ill children while also supporting their fellow NHS workers on the frontline during the Coronavirus pandemic.

From building 26 Duplo pirate ships to tying 26 bowline knots and building a rocket out of 26 household items, the children we support and their families have really stepped up to the 2.6 Challenge.

Sadie (age 4) is a SWAN (Syndromes Without A Name) child which means she doesn’t have a diagnosis. Whilst to many people, Sadie looks like a healthy, happy four-year-old, she has a range of extremely complex health conditions. We caught up with her mum, Lucy to find out more about the impact of having a child without a diagnosis and an invisible, lifelong, incurable illness:

Georgia (16) was diagnosed with epilepsy in November 2018 and has been supported by Roald Dahl Specialist Nurse, Louisa Griffith. Louisa has been a vital support for Georgia’s mum, Karen and has helped bring “peace of mind” to Georgia.

During this public health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Roald Dahl Specialist Children’s Nurses and their specialist teams are under great pressure supporting children and young people with lifelong, incurable illnesses and their families.
