Enjoy family workshops and activities inspired by things that fly in Roald Dahl's books - from the giant peach to the great glass elevator.

May half-term, 25 May to 2 June 2019.

Let your imagination soar this May half-term! We've got some fantastic family workshops lined up for you, all inspired by things that fly in Roald Dahl's books, and perfect for 5 to 12 year olds and their adults.

Plus enjoy the interactive galleries, storytelling, talks, our Quentin Blake Matilda exhibition, trails and delicious cake throughout the week.

Storytelling and talks

Enjoy storytelling every day, and Roald Dahl talks from Tuesday to Friday - listen out for announcements. Included with your admission ticket.

Quentin Blake Matilda exhibition

Pop in to the Lower Babbling Room to see eight new drawings by Quentin Blake, each one showing a different version of a grown-up Matilda. Included with your admission ticket.


Pick up our Take Off! trail and follow the clues around the Museum. Head further afield and pick up our Village and Countryside trails to explore the local sights that inspired Roald Dahl's books. Included with your admission ticket.

Make things with clay
Invent your own flying creature based on Roald Dahl's characters like the Roly-Poly Bird, then get your hands messy and make your creation out of clay.
Saturday 25 and Friday 31 May - £3 each

Have fun with junk
Find out about the giant peach and the glass elevator, then make your own flying contraption out of weird and wonderful junk.
Sunday 26 and Thursday 30 May - £3 each

Meet an inspirational author
Perfect for adults and kids who love books and drawing! Meet real-life author Jen Campbell for an inspiring hour of storytelling and crafts.
Wednesday 29 May - £3 each 

Enjoy and family ramble with a sweet treat at the end
Head out to the countryside surrounding the Museum and explore the woods that inspired books like Fantastic Mr Fox. Then head back to the Museum for a delicous afternoon tea.

Experience a sensory workshop
Don't miss this brain-tickling sensory workshop where you'll touch, taste, smell, see and hear your way around the things that fly in Roald Dahl's books.
Wednesday 29 May - £3 each

Find out about the magic of storytelling
Fancy improving your storytelling skills? Want to be able to make up some sensational stories? Then join storyteller Andy Copps, who’ll teach the whole family some great ways of making and telling stories.
