Come and visit our brand new exhibition, James's Peachy Pictures, featuring illustrations from the first edition of James and the Giant Peach by Nancy Ekholm Burkert.

These delightful illustrations were created by American artist Nancy Ekholm Burkert and they bring James's adventures brilliantly to life. All the scenes depicted have been wonderfully imagined by Nancy in exquisite detail and show how carefully she developed all the drawings for the book. This was Nancy’s first time illustrating a children’s book, and Roald Dahl's first famous book for children. Particularly fantabulous is her flying peach!

As well as being able to enjoy Nancy's beautiful drawings up close, you'll hear excerpts of James and the Giant Peach read aloud as well as a soundscape created by sound artist Richard Bentley and our visitors especially for this exhibition. You'll feel truly immersed in James's magical journey, particularly once you've given the peach a good sniff!

On display throughout the summer, make sure you don't miss out on the chance to see these wonderful illustrations up close. Best of all? Our fantabulous exhibition is FREE with Museum entry.

You can also visit our galleries to see some James and the Giant Peach items from our archive, including the signed first edition of the book that Roald Dahl gave to his mother.

Nancy's illustrations will be on display in our Lower Babbling Room during the summer holidays. You can visit the exhibition space every day, although workshops and storytelling sessions will taking place in the room throughout the day.
