Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox

A new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox is coming to UK theatres!

As part of the Roald Dahl 100, Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) will present the world premiere of a major new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox this Christmas!

This brand new family show is a dahlicious playful retelling of Roald Dahl’s brilliant witty story about the clever Mr Fox outfoxing Boggis, Bunce and Bean - three greedy, smelly, horrid farmers.

Mr Fox is smart, clever and rather fantastic, but he doesn’t realise how determined the farmers are to get revenge. Can he hatch a plan to save his family and friends? Can they outrun the diggers and outsmart the farmers, and can Rabbit shut up long enough not to give the game away!

Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox is family fun at its finest! Co-produced with Curve, this gloriumptious new show with live music and songs opens in Southampton at the Nuffield Theatre for Christmas (22 November - 8 January), before transferring to the Lyric Hammersmith and then embarking on a major national tour in 2017.

Luke Kelly, Managing Director of the Roald Dahl Literary Estate and Roald Dahl’s grandson said:

We’re excited to be working with such an accomplished partner as NST to bring Fantastic Mr Fox to the stage in this brand new musical version, and delighted that so many people across the UK will be able to see it during the 2017 tour.

Sam Hodges, Director at Nuffield Southampton Theatres said:

This co-production, with our partners Curve, marks significant growth for NST. I’m very proud and excited to offer the world premiere and national tour of Roald Dahl’s hugely popular tale as the flagship Dahl centenary production, reinforcing NST as one of the country’s leading producing companies.

The spliffling team who are making this new show for the stage include award winning playwright Sam Holcroft who most recent play Rules For Living premiered at the National Theatre in 2015, Maria Aberg director for the Royal Shakespeare Company and designer Tom Scutt who was nominated for a Tony and won an Outer Critics’ Circle Award for Best Costume Design for King Charles III in 2016.

The music is composed by Arthur Darvill, best known as "Rory" in BBC TV’s Doctor Who and "Rev. Paul Coates" in Broadchurch. His most recent theatre work as composer includes I Want My Hat Back at the National Theatre
