Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity help a family with four year old triplets create a joyful new bedroom.
Caring for a seriously ill child can take its toll on the entire family, not just emotionally, but also financially. Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity provides direct support to families in crisis through the Family Grants programme.
Take Esperanza and her four year old triplets Hazel, Sara and Patrick. When Hazel was born, she weighed only 1lb 2oz and was in intensive care for six months. Hazel is tube-fed and suffers from chronic lung disease as well as vocal cord palsy.
Until recently, the children were sharing a double mattress on the floor, but have become too big for this. Hazel also needs to be administered with night-time medication and feeding which can disturb the other children. Finances are tight and mum Esperanza had to give up work to look after the children while the children's dad goes to work. The family were able to find funding for the beds, but needed help with purchasing the mattresses.
That's where Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity Family Grants programme was able to help. The scheme which has provided over £32,000 worth of funding for families in the UK since April 2016 alone, supports children like Hazel and her family in times of need.
Mum Esperanza is delighted with the new mattresses and says, "We want to say a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The children now have a beautiful, colourful, joyful bedroom and comfortable, good quality mattresses. They sleep well now from 7.30pm to 7.00am, which makes mum and dad very happy."
Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity also provides Roald Dahl specialist children's nurses and helps thousands of children and their families each year. Find out more about the children we help and learn about our Family Grants programme.
