Even as a young boy, Roald Dahl was a fan of chocolate, even if he couldn't always spell the word...

This wonderful letter from the Roald Dahl archive is from when Roald was a very young child, away at boarding school and writing home to his family every week - a habit he kept up throughout his life. The extract featured here, featuring Roald's own spelling, reads:

"Buzze's leg will soon be all right, and I hope Mike is all right. We are starting the examinations on Monday, we are doing revision now, going back to all the work we've done this term, and the one which gets the most marks in Arithmetic gets a quarter-stare, I have got the most marks and the next highest boy has got 118 marks, I think I am having a quarter-stare this week for Latin. Our section master, Mr Jackson sead he would give half a pound of choclate to the one which got the most quarter-stars. Love from BOY."
