Opening up a world of opportunity for nurses
Inspired by Willy Wonka’s Inventing Room, a place where amazing new creations are dreamed up and turned into reality, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity has its very own Marvellous Nurse Inventing Room.
Thanks to support from our friends at the Burdett Trust for Nursing, we support innovative nurse-led research projects.
Across the UK, dedicated children's nurses deliver the best care possible for children with serious long term conditions. All great children's nurses see the child, not just their condition, and their insight and experience means that they are brilliantly placed to spot new ideas for improving care.
Our aim through the Marvellous Nurse Inventing Room is to improve the quality of care for seriously ill children and young people. The programme also helps to improve skills in leadership, research and project management for nurses.
Our Marvellous Nurse Inventing Room will run for three years. We will be funding twelve projects at the start of the programme. Project grants will be awarded up to £15,000 each, and will carry on for 18 months between December 2014 and June 2016. We will collate the learning from July to September 2016 and communicate this from October 2016 to March 2017.

Please note the deadline for applications has now passed.
We would like to thank all the children's nurses who applied to the Marvellous Nurse Inventing Room. We have received some interesting project ideas and the first selection has been made. These shortlisted applicants are busy working on their full applications.
We will be announcing the twelve successful nurse-led teams on Monday 27 October and their innovation projects will be launched at our Roald Dahl Nurses Conference in November.
