Flying in a Great Glass Elevator at 96 ½ or leaving a gift to charity in your Will. This week discover there’s a legend in all of us.

As part of Remember A Charity week, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity is celebrating living legends – people who do extraordinary things in later life.  We thought it would be nice to think about some of Roald Dahl’s older characters, sometimes overshadowed by their younger counterparts, but legends nonetheless.

Grandpa Joe is 96 ½ when he leaps out of bed and embarks on an amazing adventure with his grandson Charlie to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.  From dallying with Fizzy Lifting Drinks to bursting out of the Chocolate Factory roof in the Great Glass Elevator, Grandpa Joe’s legendary escapades help to secure a brighter future for Charlie.

Grandma in The Witches is no less extraordinary.  At 86 she takes on The Grand High Witch with her devious and brilliant plan to turn the witches into mice with their own Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker potion and saves ”all the children of England” in the process.

But you don’t have to go flying in a Great Glass Elevator or battling with witches to be a living legend. You could become equally legendary by an extraordinary act of kindness – leaving a donation to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity in your Will.

Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity was founded in memory of Roald Dahl, whose passion for mischief and inventiveness inspires our mission to help children with rare illness to enjoy their childhood every day.  We rely on the generosity of people like you making donations during their lifetime and in their Wills in order to help current and future generations of children with rare conditions to have a childhood, a marvellous one full of mischief and goodness.

That’s why we are taking part in Remember A Charity in your Will Week to help raise awareness of the importance of gifts left in Wills.

It’s a common myth that you have to be wealthy to leave a gift in your Will to help us, but nothing could be further from the truth. After taking care of family and friends, you’ll be amazed at what one final gift, no matter how big or small, can do.

During this year’s Remember A Charity week, you too can become a legend like Grandpa Joe or Grandma by leaving the gift of a lifetime to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

Taking care of your loved ones and favourite charities is easier than you think. Visit our legacy giving page for more information.
