Superstar fundraiser, Sarita, tells of her incredible journey to help seriously ill children live happier lives by swimming the English Channel.

Fundraisers take on all manner of challenges: from bake sales to marathons, there is no end to what people will generously do to raise money for a good cause. Sarita (pictured on the left) a new fundraiser for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity is going above and beyond. As she explains below, she is embarking on an enormous challenge - today she is swimming the English Channel. We asked Sarita to share her story.

“The big day is finally here! This morning at 9.30am myself and two good friends will set off from Samphire Hoe beach in Dover aiming to swim across the English Channel to France!  I am so excited! No doubt the nerves will appear as soon as I lay eyes on the sea.

It's been such an incredible journey. Guy (centre), Troy (right), and I have been reminiscing of late and we are in agreement that it's been tough but great fun and we've loved every step of the way. Two years of planning, racking up around 430kms in the pool, lake and sea this year alone in water temperatures ranging from 11.5-17 degrees Celsius (without a wetsuit), and suffering from early onset of hypothermia more times than I care to remember.

If we can make it safely across it will be an incredible achievement - mentally as well as physically. My family has been really supportive and it has been incredible to see how my two young boys have got excited about it all - I am so proud of them.

I am truly grateful for my body and mind allowing me to take on this challenge with confidence. Above all, it’s been a huge satisfaction raising funds for the wonderful Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity. Choosing a charity was relatively easy. My only criteria was it had to be for children, relatively local to where I live to create a sense of community and I wanted it to be friendly and approachable. My boys (aged three and six) love Roald Dahl's magical stories and Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity seemed the perfect fit!  I have now exceeded my £5,000 target and hope to raise even more following the swim.

As I embark on this personal journey I wish to thank Roald Dahl's Marvellous Charity for their wonderful support and well wishes. I hope to make everybody, who has been so kind and generous, proud!”

Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity sends Sarita bucket loads of luck and many thanks. If you would like to show Sarita your support, please visit her fundraising page
